NPEA Student Dagger. Karl Burgsmüller, Berlin-Charlottenberg 5 TM. Aluminum crossguards show light surface wear with obverse lower crossguard stamped, “NPEA J213” indicating that the dagger was the property of the school located at Illfeld, which is southeast of Braunschweg. NOTE: The Germans often used the letter “J” for an “I”. Dark brown oak grained grip shows light surface wear with one depression on lower obverse and is devoid of any insignia as is proper for the student-pattern NPEA dagger. Polished blade grades excellent+ with light surface wear and some minor shadowing/speckling near crossguard. Crisp, deeply-etched motto displays the correct background frosting with contrasting open space to the left of each letter. Brown felt blade buffer pad is present. Dent-free scabbard retains approximately 90% of its olive drab enamel showing light surface wear with some loss of paint near tip. Original NPEA daggers with the desirable school stampings are difficult to find! Exc+ (19258) $2,250.
