Imperial Presentation Damascus Infantry Sword. No maker. The beauty of this gorgeous
heavy hilt on this piece is difficult to describe. Has heavily gilted lion head
with red eyes. Near 100% of the gilting remains on this sword. The sharkskin grip
on this piece is perfect with its triple wire wrap intact. Has the crossed sabers
for Infantry Officer on the front langet. The reverse has a very ornate presentation
plaque, which is unadorned. The tip of the crossguard is in the shape of a lion
head. "Maiden Hair Damascus blade features an Imperial one-line inscription. Beneath
that is written the following: "Husnrenvereinelbfeld 3.1904". This is raised in
gold on the Damascus blade. On the reverse blade in raised gold is, "In Treue
Fest". Has its leather buffer pad intact. Blade is very nice showing only light
age in a few spots. Blued scabbard shows some wear and a couple of dings to the
obverse and reverse. Scabbard has two rings but has been period altered so that
the wearer would only utilize the upper ring. Attached to the upper ring is the
period hanger. Leather is old and shows much age. Buckle is very unique having
two lion heads in an elongated shape. I cannot over-emphasize the beauty of the
hilt on this particular piece as most of the fire gilting remains, which makes
this sword quite striking! Exc+ (11841) $2,695.
