Imperial Wurttemberg Infantry M-89 Degen. WK & C TM (king's head & knight's head)
TM. A similar example of this sword is shown on page 462 of Swords of Germany
1900/1945 by John Angolia as part of the reprint of the WK&C catalog dated about
1905. Gilted brass fittings show light surface wear/age with traces of original
gilting remaining in heavily chiseled pommel/backstrap, knuckle-bow and folding
handguard with Wurttemberg coat-of-arms with royal crown. Pommel cap is engraved
with the monogram of the original owner in ornate script, "WH". Black horn grip
shows light surface wear with two nicks under tight, twisted silver wire wrap.
Plated blade grades excellent with light surface wear/runner marks, some light
gray speckling overall and several minor nicks to cutting edge. Leather blade
buffer pad is present. Scabbard shows uniform wear to original black paint with
several spots of paint missing and a few depressions along edge. Nice representative
piece of the folding handguard pattern. Exc. (17217) $695.
