Presentation M-89 Infantry Degen w/Deluxe Hilt.
Weyersberg & Co., Solingen TM. Gilted brass hilt
fittings show light surface wear to heavily-chiseled
pommel, knuckle-bow, and non- folding handguard
with Imperial eagle. Fittings show light surface
wear with much gilting remaining throughout, to
include the slightly curved quillion which features
a raised facsimile of Kaiser Wilhelm inside an oval
rope pattern border. Pommel nut is professionally
engraved with the initials of the original owner,
“W. H.” on either side of a caduceus, the symbol
of the medical profession. Black bakelite grip shows
light surface wear and aging, with a few faint hairline
cracks adjacent to the base of the pommel. Grip
is complete with Imperial “WR2” cypher pinned to
the obverse. Tight silver wire-wrap is present,
as well as the original leather fingerloop. Plated,
double-etched blade measuring 30 ¼” in length grades
excellent/excellent+, showing light surface wear
and some minor lifting adjacent to the crossguard,
with some minor specks of lifting towards the tip.
Obverse blade features floral panels, as well as
the royal cypher, “W2” with Imperial crown flanking
a blued presentation panel. The presentation panel
features the following inscription: “Dem Stabarztd.
Landwehr Dr Hansberg zum 25 Jahr. Offizier-Jubiläum”
(to Landwehr Medical Officer Dr. Hansberg on his
25-year anniversary as an officer). Reverse blade
features a floral motif with a facsimile profile
of Kaiser Wilhelm flanking a blued center panel,
with the inscription, “Offizier-Verein I Dortmund”.
Lower portion of blade features plated “rosebud”
Damascus pattern. Blade is complete with original
tan leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free scabbard,
with two suspension bands and rings, retains approximately
95% of its period black painted finish over the
original nickeled finish. In 1908, the Army was
ordered to transition to black scabbards, and many
of the older nickel scabbards were simply painted
with black enamel at that time. Sword is complete
with an original Imperial Officer sword knot in
Near MINT condition, with large acorn, as well as
the original Prussian pattern sword hanger featuring
silver bullion facing on red leather backing. Complete
with teardrop belt loop. Included with the sword
are photocopies of pages from the Imperial ranklist
which show Dr. Hansberg as a member of the Landwehr
from the 1886 ranklist through his last entry in
