Presentation M-89 Infantry Degen w/Deluxe Hilt. Weyersberg & Co., Solingen TM. Gilted brass hilt fittings show light surface wear to heavily-chiseled pommel, knuckle-bow, and non- folding handguard with Imperial eagle. Fittings show light surface wear with much gilting remaining throughout, to include the slightly curved quillion which features a raised facsimile of Kaiser Wilhelm inside an oval rope pattern border. Pommel nut is professionally engraved with the initials of the original owner, “W. H.” on either side of a caduceus, the symbol of the medical profession. Black bakelite grip shows light surface wear and aging, with a few faint hairline cracks adjacent to the base of the pommel. Grip is complete with Imperial “WR2” cypher pinned to the obverse. Tight silver wire-wrap is present, as well as the original leather fingerloop. Plated, double-etched blade measuring 30 ¼” in length grades excellent/excellent+, showing light surface wear and some minor lifting adjacent to the crossguard, with some minor specks of lifting towards the tip. Obverse blade features floral panels, as well as the royal cypher, “W2” with Imperial crown flanking a blued presentation panel. The presentation panel features the following inscription: “Dem Stabarztd. Landwehr Dr Hansberg zum 25 Jahr. Offizier-Jubiläum” (to Landwehr Medical Officer Dr. Hansberg on his 25-year anniversary as an officer). Reverse blade features a floral motif with a facsimile profile of Kaiser Wilhelm flanking a blued center panel, with the inscription, “Offizier-Verein I Dortmund”. Lower portion of blade features plated “rosebud” Damascus pattern. Blade is complete with original tan leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free scabbard, with two suspension bands and rings, retains approximately 95% of its period black painted finish over the original nickeled finish. In 1908, the Army was ordered to transition to black scabbards, and many of the older nickel scabbards were simply painted with black enamel at that time. Sword is complete with an original Imperial Officer sword knot in Near MINT condition, with large acorn, as well as the original Prussian pattern sword hanger featuring silver bullion facing on red leather backing. Complete with teardrop belt loop. Included with the sword are photocopies of pages from the Imperial ranklist which show Dr. Hansberg as a member of the Landwehr from the 1886 ranklist through his last entry in the 1906 ranklist. Choice Imperial Degen! Exc+ (19148) $3,500.
