Imperial M-89 Infantry Degen. W.K. & C. (side-by-side
king's head & knight's helmet) TM. An illustration
of this pattern sword appears in the Imperial WKC
sales catalog as Pattern Nr. 2 - "Preussischer
Infanterie Offizier-Degen mit Adlercharnier".
Unadorned gilted brass hilt fittings show light
surface wear to pommel and pommel cap, as well as
the 2-finger knuckle-bow. Folding handguard is embellished
with Imperial eagle with royal cypher on chest.
Traces of gilting remain in the recesses of the
eagle. Black bakelite grip shows light surface wear
with one tiny chip adjacent to the lower edge of
the pommel. Is complete with triple twisted-silver
wire-wrap and royal cypher pinned to obverse. Straight,
plated, double-fullered blade measuring 31 7/8"
in length grades excellent+/excellent++, showing
light surface wear/runner marks, but no nicks or
damage. Steel scabbard retains approximately 85%
of its black enamel, showing surface wear and age
crazing, with one faint depression on obverse between
the suspension bands. Scabbard is complete with
two suspension bands and one upper ring. Lower suspension
ring was removed in accordance with the 1908 regulation.
Sword is complete with original Prussian pattern
Officer sword knot with black fabric strap, three
silver bullion lines, and small silver bullion acorn.
