Presentation M-89 Infantry Degen w/Etched Blade.
Ewald Cleff, Solingen TM. Unadorned gilted brass
hilt fittings show light surface wear to pommel
and pommel cap, as well as the 3-finger knuckle-bow
and non-folding handguard with Imperial eagle and
royal cypher. Traces of gilting remain in the recesses
of the eagle and to the underside of the crossguard.
Grip is complete with leather fingerloop which shows
wear and aging to leather. Straight, plated, double-fullered,
double-etched blade measuring 32" in length grades
excellent+/excellent++, showing light surface wear/runner
marks and some gray speckling to both obverse and
reverse ricasso. Is complete with off-white leather
blade buffer pad. Obverse blade features a 9 ¾"
long floral etch panel with the ricasso marked,
"Eisenhauer" in raised Gothic letters, as well as
a 3-line presentation inscription in the central
panel, "Hauptmann Golden zum Andenken an das Infanterie-Regiment
Graf Dönhoff (7. Ostpreuss.) No 44.1870-1893." (Captain
Golden as a keepsake by Infantry Regiment Count
Dönhoff (7th East Prussian) No. 44, 1870-1893).
Reverse blade features a 9 ¾" long etch panel with
floral motif. Blade is complete with an etched spine
with "Ewald Cleff, Solingen" in raised letters on
the upper spine adjacent to the crossguard. Straight
steel scabbard with double suspension bands and
rings retains 100% of its repainted black enamel,
with one faint depression on obverse near the tip/drag.
A photocopy of the 1892 Imperial Prussian Army ranklist
showing Captain Golden as an "a la suite" officer
in the Regiment assigned to the NCO school in Biebrich
