Imperial Lion Head Sword w/Deluxe Hilt & Damascus
Blade. WK&C (king's head & knight's helmet) TM.
An illustration of this sword with Artillery style
langet appears in the Imperial WKC sales catalog
as Pattern Nr. 27, "Feiner Cavallerie=und Artillerie=Offizier=Parderkopf=Säbel
mit Neuem Eichenlaubbügel". Deluxe gilted brass
hilt fittings show surface wear to highlights, with
virtually 100% of the original fire gilting remaining
in recesses of the heavily-chiseled lion head pommel
with glass eyes, floral embellished backstrap, knuckle-bow
with heavily cast oak leaves, langet with crossed
swords & lances, and lion head quillon. Black horn
grip is perfect with no cracks or chips, and is
complete with tight triple twisted silver wire wrap.
Curved, "maiden hair" Damascus blade with blued/gilted
panels measuring 33" in length grades excellent/excellent+,
showing light surface wear/age to the Damascus pattern,
and some aging to the background bluing of the gilted
panels. Is complete with brown felt blade buffer
pad. Obverse blade features a gilted ricasso and
is marked, "Eisenhauer Damast-Stahl" in raised gilt
letters on a gilt background above a presentation
panel surrounded by oak leaves, with a central presentation
script in raised gilt Gothic letters, "Fritz S/l.
Bruder Hans." (Fritz to my dear brother Hans) on
a 2-line ribbon panel. Reverse blade features a
gilted ricasso above an 11 ½" gilted/blued floral
panel. Dent-free, professionally refurbished steel
scabbard retains 100% of its nickel plating, and
is complete with the pre-1908 double suspension
bands and rings. Attached to the sword is the original
Prussian pattern Officer sword knot with black leather
strap, three bullion stripes, and silver bullion
acorn showing wear and age. Beautiful example of
Imperial WKC craftsmanship. Exc+/Exc++ (20123) $2,595.
