      M-89 Württemberg Infantry Degen w/Deluxe Hilt and Double-Etched Blade. "Z" inside shield (Clemen und Jung) TM. This superb sword with deluxe hilt was recently obtained in Germany and is complete with double-etched blade personalized to the 3rd Württemberg Infantry Regiment. Ornate sword features a heavily-chiseled oak leaf embellished pommel cap, pommel and crossguard, with non-folding handguard depicting the Württemberg coat of arms with royal crown. Hilt fittings show superb detail with virtually no wear to gilting. Black/dark brown horn grip shows only minor surface wear and is the plain fluted style without wire wrap normally found on Prussian Cavalry swords. Plated, double-etched blade measuring 33 ½" in length grades Near MINT showing only light surface wear with no graying, speckling, or nicks to cutting edge. Is complete with original tan leather blade buffer pad. Obverse blade features a 14 ½" long etched panel featuring floral motif flanking the central blued panel with the inscription, "Inf. Rgt. Alt=Württemberg (3). Württembergisch." in raised gothic letters followed by a raised facsimile of the Württemberg coat of arms. The reverse blade features a 14 ½" long etched panel featuring a floral and military motif etch flanking a central blued panel with the inscription, "Fur Ehr und Pflicht, bis Herz und Klinge Bricht" (for honor and duty until the heart and blade break). Straight, dent-free scabbard retains virtually 100% of its period black enamel over the original nickel finish. In 1908, the Army was ordered to transition to black scabbards, and many of the older nickel scabbards were simply painted with black enamel at that time. Sword is complete with original officer sword knot in excellent condition showing wear and age to the black fabric strap and dark age patina to the silver bullion stem and acorn. Sword is complete with documentation from the 1914 Imperial Army ranklist indicating that Infantry Regiment Alt=Württemberg was assigned to the 26th Infantry Division and headquartered in Ludswigsburg. Also included with the documentation is a color scan illustrating the uniform worn by members of the regiment. Beautiful deluxe sword with superb double-etched blade with blued panels.
