Heavy gilted brass hilt has the Imperial crown and anchor on the non-folding obverse handguard. Hilt section is stamped with the early Naval Ordnance mark, which is the "M" with an eagle. Distributor mark is placed on the engraved spine of the blade, and features anchor and sailing ship motif on both obverse and reverse.

"Maiden hair" Damascus blade and features an approximate 6" engraved panel on the obverse and reverse. Panels show the fouled anchor with crown and a battleship within a floral motif on the obverse and reverse. The bottom of the crossguard is "Ges.Gesch" marked.

Pommel cap is deeply jeweler engraved with the family crest of the recipient and pictures a 7-point crown above a crest with 3 quarter moons enclosed. Research reveals that this crest is attributed to the von Hansteins. Further research reveals that a Frhr. von Hanstein was assigned to the 2nd Sea Battalion. Upon reviewing information available in Auszienert "Unsere Marine", it was discovered that the Officers of the 2nd Sea Battalion were presented with an Honor saber on 1 April 1914 by Prince Egan von Furstenverg. This was presented in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the 2nd Sea Battalion on April 1, 1914. This is obviously one of these RARE Honor sabers.

Sword comes with the sword owner's cap tally ribbon, which has in gilt, "Linienschiff Hessen". These ribbons were sewn to the caps to identify the ship that the individual was serving on.

Reverse folding langet is jeweler-engraved with the presentation inscription, "Mushacke s/l. Meine". Research in the "Ehrenrangliste der Kaiserliche Deutschen Marine" indicates that the recipient of the sword, Bruno Meine, was born on 9 July 1882, was promoted to Kapitänleutnant on 15 October 1910, served in World War I with Naval artillery, and was placed on the retired rolls on 24 November 1919 as a Korvettenkapitän. The presenter of the sword, Hans Mushacke, was born on 7 July 1881, was promoted to Kapitänleutnant on 10 April 1911, and was killed in action on 17 October 1914 while serving on the torpedo boat, "S115".

Reverse folding langet is jeweler engraved with the name of the original owner, "Wolff". Obverse blade features a 13 ½" relief etched panel featuring floral motif and Naval equipment, with center panel displaying a highly detailed Imperial crown surmounting a fouled anchor above the Royal coat of arms. Completing the relief etched pattern is an early war ship cruising over ocean waves, complete with Naval ensign flying from the main mast. Reverse blade features a 13 ½" relief etched panel featuring floral motif, Naval equipment, detailed Imperial crown above a fouled anchor, and crossed cannon barrels, as well as an early sailing ship cruising over ocean waves.
